Open Art – Fridays – 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Free to members; non-members $5.00

The Art Room is available for artists of all levels. Artists are invited to paint and share critiques and tips with each other.


Ballet – Wednesdays @ Coastal Community Center – 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.; Free to members; non-members $5.00

Ballet classes are taught by Judy Woodruff at the Coastal Community Center, 180 Marine Street.  This class assumes some prior training in ballet.  Selected classical techniques are taught at barre and center.  Short dances are developed for performance.

Dance Flex – Mondays -1:45 – 2:45 p.m. Free to members; non-members $5.00

Explores exercises that improve strength, dynamic flexibility and efficient movement patterning for dance performance as well as daily life.  Much of the work is done lying or sitting on the floor.  This class is challenging – it is not recommended for individuals unable to easily get down on the floor and back up to standing.  Participants are encouraged to bring yoga mats and a large (bath size) towel.

Dance Styles Beginner – Wednesdays – 10:15 – 11:45 a.m.  Free to members; non-members $5.00

Learn how to move and feel to music of all types! This is a fun class taught by Sally Walton who has given dance instruction in this area for many years.

Dance Styles Intermediate with Sally – Tuesdays – 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. Free to members: non-members $5.00

Gypsy Skirt Dancing – Mondays – 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. $5.00 for members; non-members $6.00

Embrace your gypsy spirit with this fun and festive class that celebrates the diversity of dance. Although the moves are basic, it still provides for a great workout. Fun props may be incorporated along with big skirts.

Line Dancing Beginner – Wednesdays – 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. Free to members; non-members $5.00

Want to learn the Electric Slide and other line dance steps?  Join Joyce Vikes. Learn the line dance basics so you no longer miss out on the fun at gatherings and weddings. No partner is needed. Please wear soft soled or dance shoes.

Line Dancing Intermediate – Thursdays – 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. Free to members; non-members $5.00

Come join in the Line Dance fun! No partner is needed and all types of music are used!  Dances range from the Cha-Cha and Waltz to the Electric Slide. Speed adjusted to ability. Please wear soft soled or dance shoes.

Musical Theatre – Thursdays – 1:45 – 2:45 p.m.  $5.00 for members; non-members $6.00

Sing, dance, and act your way through this fun-filled class that focuses on Broadway Musicals. No auditions necessary!  This class is taught by Libby Johnson.

Beginners Tap – Wednesdays – 11:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. Free to members; non-members $5.00                

No previous experience with tap dance is required, but students should be sufficiently fit to move for 60 minutes at a slow to moderate pace.  The class teaches basic tap dance fundamentals and learning short dances.

Show Jazz – Thursdays – 12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. $5.00 for members; non-members $6.00

Basic jazz steps, combinations and floor progressions are taught to some of Broadway’s favorite tunes. No      previous dance training required. This class is taught by Libby Johnson.

Show Tap – Fridays – 9:15 – 10:15 a.m. $5.00 for members; non-members $6.00

Learn to tap to the golden styles of the 1940’s.  This Show Tap class will consist of warm-ups, center floor combinations, across the floor combinations and introduction to time steps.  This is a beginning to intermediate level.  This class is taught by Libby Johnson

Assumes that the participant has a moderate fitness level and has had some prior tap dance exercise.  The class will concentrate on honing skills in the basic tap technique, exploring musicality and style, and learning choreography.

Legal Lectures—1st Friday of Each Month (except June-July) – 10:00-11:00 a.m.

Please join Attorney Megan Wall from St. Johns County Legal Aid as she discusses various legal topics for seniors. These free and open to the public lectures will be held at River House on the 1st Friday of most months (no lectures In June and July).

Writing Group Wednesdays – 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.  Free to members; non-members $5.00

Need an idea to start writing?  Get motivated with Peter Guinta, whose background as a professional news reporter and author is the leader of this class.  Anyone who has that inner desire to write a book is invited to join this group.

This diverse group offers the opportunity to consider other points of view and news concerning current local, state, national, and world-wide events.

If you would like to be a part of an interesting discussion group, come to the Socrates Social!  Meetings are at River House, 179 Marine Street. Discussions are based upon participant-generated topics.

Pole Walking—Mon. 8:30 a.m. & 9:30 a.m. | Wed. 9:00 a.m. | Thurs. 8:30 a.m. & 9:30 a.m.—Eddie Vickers Park

Pole walking strengthens your whole body, has a lower impact on joints than walking, improves balance, burns more calories, increases posture and more! Must have completed Pole Walking Clinic to sign up. Call for more info.

Chair Yoga – Tuesdays & Thursdays – 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.  |  Wednesdays 2:00-3:00 p.m.  Free to members;
non-members $5.00

Chair Yoga is a practice that is accessible to people of all ages and all fitness levels. It has therapeutic benefits to seniors who may not be able to stand for long periods of time or who may be uncomfortable seated on the floor. Many standard yoga poses can easily be adapted for seniors to perform while sitting in a chair.

Gentle Yoga & Meditation – Wednesdays – 1:15 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.  Members $5.00; non-members $6.00

Gentle Yoga & Meditation focuses on three yoga disciplined:  breathing, slow mindful movement and meditation.  Participants will experience conscious breathing, warmup stretches, traditional yoga postures, final relaxation, and meditation.  All that is needed is a yoga mat, yoga blocks, and the ability to transition from the floor to standing.  There is limited space for this class and you must sign up in advance.

Pilates –Tuesdays- 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. Members $5.00; non-members $6.00

Pilates has numerous benefits including increasing your flexibility and bone density, strengthening your core, back muscles, and improving the overall health of your entire spine. Suitable for all levels with individualized modifications.

Tai Chi Beginner – Tuesdays & Thursdays 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.  $5.00 for members; $6.00 non-members

Tai Chi is a gentle way to fight stress, practice balance, relaxation and help increase flexibility.

Total Body Fitness – Mondays 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.  Members $5.00; non-members $6.00

Total Body Fitness is an invigorating slow pace full body work-out. This full body exercise class will improve bone density, muscular strength, flexibility, coordination and posture. Each Class will consist of; warm-up, hand weight exercise, floor work, and relaxation. Participants are asked to bring a floor mat, move within their comfort zone and have fun

Zumba – Mondays & Wednesdays 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.  Members $5.00; non-members $6.00

Zumba combines Latin and International music with a fun and effective workout system, plus burns a ton of calories!  Take time to do something for yourself today!  It is healthy and helps you breathe, breathe, breathe!


Bridge – Mondays & Wednesdays – 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.  Free to Members; non-members $5.00

Join your friends and meet new ones for cards and other games. .  Participants will select card games and other games when they arrive.

Happy Hookers – Tuesdays & Thursdays – 9:00 – 11:30 a.m.  Free – New members are always welcome!

This group of happy ladies meet to knit and crochet.  Their handmade items are donated within the community and also offered for sale to raise money to help support Meals on Wheels.  New members are always welcome.
