Council on Aging Hosts Christmas on the River

Join us on Sunday, November 19th from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. as the Council on Aging (COA) hosts “Christmas on the River.”

This year’s theme will be “A Worldwide Journey of Wine Tasting & Gift Giving from the Heart.” This event is a delightful kickoff to the holiday season that includes a festival of wreaths and other decorations, wine tastings and fair trade items from Amistad, delicious food, and seasonal music.

All proceeds benefit Care Connection services. Care Connection is our crisis mitigation for seniors with emergency needs for which there is no other funding source. This year, because of Hurricane Irma, we anticipate a greater need than ever before to help displaced elders who are trying to return to their homes after flooding.

“It is absolutely crucial that we are able to provide these essential in-home services to our seniors,” Becky Yanni, Executive Director, said. “I can’t think of a better way to bring the community together around the holiday season to support such a worthy cause!”

Council on Aging is in search of donations of Christmas wreaths and small trees. These decorations should be made with silk or dried materials and delivered to COA on or before November 3rd.

Sponsorships are also available and include numerous recognition opportunities.

River House Gala & Golf Tournament a Success!

We had a full house for our 14th Annual Council On Aging Championship Gala and Golf Tournament! Lots of fun with a delicious dinner, live and silent auction, music and dancing. It’s our biggest event of the year and proceeds go to support the COA mission- helping to create a community where people can age in place with independence and dignity.

The Slammer & Squire golf course is a challenging and fun classic, course. Always a favorite among local and traveling golfers, the COA Championship tournament usually attracts 18 to 20 teams of 4 players. This course allows for hours of golfing fun under the Florida sun- with a light breeze! Afterward, there will be delicious buffet lunch for the players.

Awards will be given to the winning teams. Last year, the St. Augustine Record won low net and Kresge, Platt, Abare & Garrett won low gross.

COA is still accepting donations for the auction, team registrations, and golf sponsorships. We are seeking donations of new items or experiences (cruises, family vacations, collectibles, artwork, antiques, etc.) Perhaps you have a very special talent and/or service which you would like to donate. We will be grateful for all items and services that will bring bids from our 300+ patrons in attendance. In recognition of your gift, you will be named in our COA Championship Gala program.

For more information or to donate, please contact Cindy Walker at 904-209-3684 or cjwalker@stjohnscoa.com

Have a Delicious Meal & Help Support Council on Aging!

The Columbia Restaurant has again chosen COA as one of the charitable organizations to benefit from its 20th Annual Columbia Restaurant Community Program.

We are asking our community to “Dine Out” for either lunch or dinner during the month of September and earn money for the Council on Aging.

Simply dine at the Columbia Restaurant – afterward, you will receive a “ballot” with your meal check. Mark the Council on Aging as your charity of choice and a portion of your bill will be donated to COA.

Please invite your friends from work, church, or post it on your community’s bulletin board. Help us spread the word: Remember …for the month of September, CHOOSE COLUMBIA AND COA.

Thank you for making a difference in the lives of the elders in St. Johns County!
