COA & SJC Celebrate Ponte Vedra Memory Care Center

On Thursday, June 18th, St. Johns County celebrated the opening of the Ponte Vedra Memory Care Center, located at 1050 A1A North in Ponte Vedra Beach! Spearheaded by the Council on Aging and the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners, the project attracted organizations like the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall, the Ponte Vedra Rotary  Club, the Don and LaVonne Blackburn Foundation, Vicar’s Landing, the Jaguars Foundation and a host of individual community sponsors.

The Ponte Vedra Memory Care Center will begin by offering Memory Enhancement Workshops, eventually expanding to address the entire continuum of care as it pertains to memory issues, dementia, Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of brain trauma.  According to COA Executive Director Becky Yanni, “We are thrilled to be opening this much-needed memory care center.  The community of Ponte Vedra really stepped up to support our efforts in a big way! We will begin offering our memory enhancement workshops in our new facility within a few weeks and will be expanding services in the very near future.  The COA would like to thank everyone who helped make this dream come true.”  Bruce Jones, CEO of Vicar’s Landing explained the center’s importance, saying, “While we provide memory care services to those who live at Vicar’s Landing, this is an opportunity to expand our mission and impact a larger population for the better.  The partnership was key, since we would only be comfortable with an experienced and capable provider with the same sort of mission, such as we found with the Council on Aging.
